RESUMO

Duck egg production, like that of laying hens, follows a typical low-peak-low cycle, reflecting the dynamics of the reproductive system. Post-peak, some ducks undergo a cessation of egg laying, indicative of a regression process in the oviduct. Notably, the magnum, being the longest segment of the oviduct, plays a crucial role in protein secretion. Despite its significance, few studies have investigated the molecular mechanisms underlying oviduct regression in ducks that have ceased laying eggs. In this study, we conducted single-cell transcriptome sequencing on the magnum tissue of Shaoxing ducks at 467 days of age, utilizing the 10× Genomics platform. This approach allowed us to generate a detailed magnum transcriptome map of both egg-laying and ceased-laying ducks. We collected transcriptome data from 13,708 individual cells, which were then subjected to computational analysis, resulting in the identification of 27 distinct cell clusters. Marker genes were subsequently employed to categorize these clusters into specific cell types. Our analysis revealed notable heterogeneity in magnum cells between the egg-laying and ceased-laying ducks, primarily characterized by variations in cells involved in protein secretion and extracellular matrix (ECM)-producing fibroblasts. Specifically, cells engaged in protein secretion were predominantly observed in the egg-laying ducks, indicative of their role in functional albumen deposition within the magnum, a phenomenon not observed in the ceased-laying ducks. Moreover, the proportion of THY1+ cells within the ECM-producing fibroblasts was found to be significantly higher in the egg-laying ducks (59%) compared to the ceased-laying ducks (24%). Similarly, TIMP4+ fibroblasts constituted a greater proportion of the ECM-producing fibroblasts in the egg-laying ducks (83%) compared to the ceased-laying ducks (58%). These findings suggest a potential correlation between the expression of THY1 and TIMP4 in ECM-producing fibroblasts and oviduct activity during functional reproduction. Our study provides valuable single-cell insights that warrant further investigation into the biological implications of fibroblast subsets in the degeneration of the reproductive tract. Moreover, these insights hold promise for enhancing the production efficiency of laying ducks.

RESUMO

In oxygen electrocatalysis, how to rationally design low-cost catalysts with reasonable structure and long-term stability is a crucial issue. Here, an in-situ growth strategy is used to construct a shaped structure encapsulating a uniformly-dispersed Co/Co3Fe7 heterojunction in nitrogen-doped carbon nanotubes (Co/Co3Fe7@NCNTs). Hollow CoFe layered-double-hydroxide prisms act as sacrifices for in-situ growth of Co/Co3Fe7 nanoparticles, which also catalyze the growth of bamboo-like NCNTs. Tubular structure not only accelerates the charge transfer through the interactions between Co and Co3Fe7, but also limits the aggregation of the particles, thereby promoting the 4e- oxygen reduction/evolution reactions (ORR/OER) kinetics and stabilizing the bifunctional activity. Co/Co3Fe7@NCNTs-800 (pyrolyzed at 800 °C) shows exceptional ORR activity (half-wave potential of 0.89 V) and methanol tolerance. Meanwhile, Co/Co3Fe7@NCNTs-800 shows a small OER overpotential of 280 mV, which increases by only 9 mV after 1000 cyclic voltammetry (CV) cycles. The outstanding bifunctionality (potential gap of 0.62 V) is ascribed to the electronic structure modulation at the Co/Co3Fe7 heterointerface. Notably, it also has a high performance as an air-cathode for rechargeable zinc-air battery, showing high power density (165 mW cm-2) and specific capacity (770.5 m Ah kg-1). This work provides a new reference for promoting the development of alloy catalysts with heterogeneous interfaces.

OBJECTIVE: Prediabetes and lifestyle factors have been associated with the risks of multiple adverse outcomes, but the effect of a healthy lifestyle on prediabetes-related complications remains unknown. We aimed to investigate whether the risks of multiple adverse outcomes including incident type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), cardiovascular disease (CVD), and chronic kidney disease (CKD) among individuals with prediabetes can be offset by a broad combination of healthy lifestyle factors. METHODS: This prospective study used data from the UK Biobank cohort. An overall lifestyle score ranging from 0 to 6 was created with 1 point for each of the 6 healthy lifestyle factors: no current smoking, moderate alcohol consumption, regular physical activity, healthy diet, no overweight or obese, and adequate sleep duration. T2DM, CVD, and CKD were ascertained during a median follow-up of 14 years. Cox proportional hazard regression models were used to estimate the associations. Sensitivity analyses were performed to test the robustness of the results. RESULTS: We included 202,993 participants without T2DM, CVD, and CKD at baseline (mean age 55.5 years [SD 8.1]; 54.7% were women). Among these participants, 6,745, 16,961, and 6,260 participants eventually developed T2DM, CVD, and CKD, respectively. Compared with the participants with normoglycaemia, those with prediabetes showed a higher risk of these adverse outcomes. In addition, those prediabetic participants with a lifestyle score of 0-1 had a significantly higher risk of T2DM (hazard ratio [HR] 16.73, 95% CI 14.24, 19.65), CVD (HR 1.96, 95% CI 1.74, 2.21), and CKD (HR 1.92, 95% CI 1.58, 2.34) compared with those with no prediabetes and a score of 5-6. Moreover, among the participants with prediabetes, the HRs for T2DM, CVD, and CKD comparing a lifestyle score of 5-6 versus 0-1 decreased to 0.43 (95% CI 0.36, 0.51), 0.52 (95% CI 0.44, 0.62), and 0.60 (95% CI 0.46, 0.79), respectively. CONCLUSIONS: Combined healthy lifestyle factors were associated with a significantly lower risk of multiple adverse outcomes, including T2DM, CVD, and CKD. This indicates that prioritising multifactorial approaches to behavioural lifestyle modification is crucial for preventing and postponing the development of complications related to prediabetes.

BACKGROUND: Alanine aminotransferase (ALT) is widely used to screen patients with hepatic diseases. However, the current reference ranges (< 50 U/L) were developed by laboratories and have not been validated in populations with a large number of healthy individuals. METHODS: This study collected venous blood and anthropometric data from a total of 13,287 healthy children aged 3 months to 18 years who underwent routine physical examinations in the Department of Pediatric Healthcare. We applied the least mean square algorithm to establish age- and sex-related reference percentiles of serum levels of transaminases. For validation, we recruited 4276 children and adolescents with obesity/overweight who underwent evaluation and metabolic tests in the hospital. Using receiver operating characteristic curves, we determined age- and sex-specific upper limit percentiles of liver enzymes for fatty liver diseases. RESULTS: This study revealed a significant correlation between serum transaminase levels and age and sex (P < 0.01). These transaminase levels exhibited age- and sex-specific patterns. Among individuals in the non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) cohort, elevated ALT levels displayed a positive association with clinical markers of disease severity, including homeostatic model assessment of insulin resistance, waist-hip ratio, and serum uric acid levels (P < 0.01). According to the receiver operating characteristic curves, ALT levels at the 92.58th percentile for boys and the 92.07th percentile for girls yielded the highest accuracy and specificity. CONCLUSIONS: This study provides age- and sex-specific reference ranges for ALT, aspartate aminotransferase, and γ-glutamyltransferase in Chinese children and adolescents, making it the largest population study to date. Furthermore, the study establishes a precise upper limit for ALT levels, facilitating their use in NAFLD screening. Video Abstract.

Aiming at the construction of novel stimuli-responsive fluorescent system with precisely tunable emissions, the typical 9,14-diphenyl-9,14-dihydrodibenzo[a, c]phenazine (DPAC) luminogen with attractive vibration-induced emission (VIE) behavior has been introduced into [2]rotaxane as a stopper. Taking advantage of their unique dual stimuli-responsiveness towards solvent and anion, the resultant [2]rotaxanes reveal both tunable VIE and switchable circularly polarized luminescence (CPL). Attributed to the formation of mechanical bonds, DPAC-functionalized [2]rotaxanes display interesting VIE behaviors including white-light emission upon the addition of viscous solvent, as evaluated in detail by femtosecond transient absorption (TA) spectra. In addition, ascribed to the regulation of chirality information transmission through anion-induced motions of chiral wheel, the resolved chiral [2]rotaxanes reveal unique switchable CPL upon the addition of anion, leading to significant increase in the dissymmetry factors (glum ) values with excellent reversibility. Interestingly, upon doping the chiral [2]rotaxanes in stretchable polymer, the blend films reveal remarkable emission change from white light to light blue with significant 6.5-fold increase in glum values up to -0.035 under external tensile stresses. This work provides not only a new design strategy for developing molecular systems with fluorescent tunability but also a novel platform for the construction of smart chiral luminescent materials for practical use.

Phase transformation of cobalt selenide (CoSe2 ) can effectively modulate its intrinsic electrocatalytic activity. However, enhancing electroconductivity and catalytic activity/stability of CoSe2 still remains challenging. Heterostructure engineering may be feasible to optimize interfacial properties to promote the kinetics of oxygen electrocatalysis on a CoSe2 -based catalyst. Herein, a heterostructure consisting of CoSe2 and cobalt nitride (CoN) embedded in a hollow carbon cage is designed via a simultaneous phase/interface engineering strategy. Notably, the phase transition of orthorhombic-CoSe2 to cubic-CoSe2 (c-CoSe2 ) accompanied by in situ CoN formation is realized to build the c-CoSe2 /CoN heterointerface, which exhibits excellent/highly stable activities for oxygen reduction/evolution reactions (ORR/OER). Notably, heterostructure can modulate the local coordination environment and increase Co-Se/N bond lengths. Theoretical calculations show that Co-site (c-CoSe2 ) with an electronic state near Fermi energy level is the main active site for ORR/OER.Energetical tailoring of the d-orbital electronic structure of the Co atom of c-CoSe2 in heterostructure by in situ CoN incorporation lowers thermodynamic barriers for ORR/OER. Attractively, a zinc-air battery with a c-CoSe2 -CoN cathode displays excellent cycling stability (250 h) and charge/discharge voltage loss (0.953/0.96 V). It highlights that heterointerface engineering provides an option for modulating the bifunctional activity of metal selenides with controlled phase transformation.

Background: The epidemic of HIV infection among men who have sex with men (MSM) is a major public health concern in some parts of China, but data on trends in HIV incidence are limited. This study aimed to examine the trends in HIV incidence and factors associated with recent HIV infection among MSM in Jiangsu province, China, based on the limiting-antigen avidity enzyme immunoassay (LAg-Avidity-EIA) method. Methods: Six consecutive surveys were implemented among MSM throughout Jiangsu province from 2016 to 2021. Participants were recruited in three ways. Socio-demographic and behavioral information were collected through face-to-face interviews. Venous blood samples were taken to test for HIV and syphilis. HIV incidence was estimated using the LAg-Avidity-EIA method. Chi-square trend tests were used to observe trends over the years. Multivariate regression analyses were used to identify factors associated with recent HIV infection. Results: A total of 15,401 participants were enrolled in the study. The prevalence of HIV infection ranged from 8.0 to 9.8%, with no consistent rise or fall over the years (P = 0.189). HIV incidence ranged from 5.0 to 9.0%, and no uptrend or downtrend was shown (P = 0.418). MSM who lived locally for more than 2 years (aOR = 1.366, P = 0.019), had a lack of comprehensive HIV knowledge (aOR = 1.643, P = 0.031), had engaged in unprotected anal intercourse (UAI) in the past 6 months (aOR = 7.373, P < 0.001), had been tested for HIV within 12 months (aOR = 1.292, P = 0.035), and tested positive for syphilis (aOR = 2.840, P < 0.001) were likely to be recently infected with HIV. Conclusions: HIV incidence among MSM has remained at a high level in Jiangsu province. In China, health education, condom use, and HIV/syphilis testing should continue to be top priorities for HIV prevention among MSM to reduce HIV transmission.

This paper introduced for the first time a viscoelastic hybrid nanofluid as the coolant for direct contact cooling power battery. The governing boundary layer equations were established by adopting fractional Oldroyd-B model and fractional Buongiorno's model. Second-order velocity slip boundary conditions were also considered. Then the solutions were numerically acquired by finite difference coupled with L1 algorithm. Impact of main physical parameters on the flow, heat and mass transfer of the viscoelastic hybrid nanofluid on the cylindrical battery was graphically presented and detailly discussed. Outcomes show that the heat transfer is improved by both Brownian motion(Nb) and thermophoresis(Nt) to different degrees. When Nb grows from 0.05 to 0.1, the average Nusselt number increases by 2.2%, higher than 0.027% of Nt. The slip behavior only affects the velocity distribution near the individual cell and slightly enhances heat and mass transfer. The velocity relaxation fractional derivative contributes to convection, heat and mass transfer on the cell wall, while velocity retardation fractional derivative behaves just the opposite. The proposed viscoelastic hybrid nanofluid with appropriate volume fractions of nanoparticles enhances heat transfer on the cell wall and is strongly recommended as a candidate for power battery coolant.

Introduction: The HIV-1 prevalence has been steadily increasing in Jiangsu, China. HIV-1 genetic transmission network can be used to explore the transmission kinetics and precision intervention in high-risk populations. Thus, we generated an HIV-1 genetic transmission network, explored key risk populations based on different risk factors and found out the risk factors for HIV-1 prevention and control among the newly-diagnosed HIV-1 cases from 2017 to 2018. Method: We amplified the HIV-1 pol sequences from the plasma samples of the newly-diagnosed HIV-1 cases from 2017 to 2018 and obtained the infection data from The National HIV/AIDS Surveillance System. HIV-Trace and Cytoscape Software were both used to construct the HIV-1 genetic network with a gene distance of <0.005. The R software was used to analyze the risk factors for inclusion into the network. Results: We obtained 3362 sequences with the pol gene region, of which 3316 contained detailed individual information. CRF01_AE accounted for 42.3 % of the HIV-1 subtypes in the samples. The median CD4+T lymphocyte count was 329 cells/µL in 2017 and 313 cells/µL in 2018. At the gene distance threshold of 0.005, 481 sequences were incorporated into the HIV-1 gene network, constructing 202 clusters. Age over 60 years old, heterosexual transmission route, subtype (CRF105_0107, CRF55_01 B, and CRF67_01 B) and CD4+T lymphocyte count (>200) were the risk factors influencing inclusion into the HIV-1 gene network. Moreover, south Jiangsu cities had higher inclusion in the network. Thus, key risk populations in the clusters with different transmission routes, new emerging subtypes, drug resistance nodes, and individuals above 60 years of age in the network represented the critical risk populations that should be focused more on for intervention. Conclusion: The HIV-1 genetic transmission network is adept at discovering undiagnosed HIV-infected cases and linking all diagnosed cases for determination of risk infections. Therefore we should pay more attention to these risk infections with further investigation and intervention, helping to achieve the goal of 95 % use combination prevention from the World Health Organization, and push to end AIDS epidemic.

OBJECTIVE: Tumor-specific growth factor (TSGF) is an immune-related factor that offers good performance in the clinical management of human cancers. However, the role of serum TSGF in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) has not been fully clarified. METHODS: A total of 562 ESCC cases were collected in our study, with available information on preoperative serum levels of TSGF at diagnosis. Preoperative serum TSGF was detected using the rate method. We retrospectively analyzed its correlation with clinicopathological features of ESCC and survival. RESULTS: The cut-off value of serum TSGF was determined to be 60.5 U/mL by receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis. Serum TSGF was associated with gender (P < 0.001), tumor location (P = 0.022), tobacco use (P < 0.001), alcohol consumption (P < 0.001), lymph node involvement (P = 0.007), and TNM staging (P = 0.004). The survival analysis revealed that ESCC patients with high levels of serum TSGF had poorer prognosis than those with high TSGF (P = 0.006), especially for male ESCC cases (P = 0.001), under 60 year (P = 0.036), male middle location (P = 0.023), tobacco consumption (P = 0.004), G1 + G2 (P = 0.031), advanced T staging (P = 0.033), lymph node involvement (P = 0.003), TNM staging (P = 0.003). Univariate Cox regression analysis indicated that exposure to smoking and drinking, tumor grade, T staging, lymph node metastasis, TNM staging, and serum TSGF level were the prognosis-related factors of ESCC. Multivariate regression analysis revealed that smoking history, higher serum TSGF levels, and advanced T stage enhanced the risk of ESCC-related death. CONCLUSION: In brief, serum TSGF levels had in relation to malignant features of ESCC. It was positively correlated with survival but was identified as an independent risk factor for ESCC.

Aiming at the creation of polymers with attractive dynamic properties, herein, rotaxane-branched dendronized polymers (DPs) with rotaxane-branched dendrons attached onto the polymer chains are proposed. Starting from macromonomers with both rotaxane-branched dendrons and polymerization site, targeted rotaxane-branched DPs are successfully synthesized through ring-opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP). Interestingly, due to the existence of multiple switchable [2]rotaxane branches within the attached dendrons, anion-induced reversible thickness modulation of the resultant rotaxane-branched DPs is achieved, which further lead to tunable thermal and rheological properties, making them attractive platform for the construction of smart polymeric materials.

OBJECTIVE: Folic acid (FA) may contribute to the development of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), but available studies are inconsistent. We studied the genotype distribution and allele frequencies of methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) C677T, A1298C, and methionine synthase reductase (MTRR) A66G polymorphisms in pregnant Chinese women and compared the effects of individualized and traditional FA supplementation on GDM. METHODS: In this retrospective study, genotype distribution and allele frequencies in 968 pregnant women were tested. FA metabolism was tested by dividing patients into four groups, each of which was supplemented with different doses of FA at different times. Pregnancy complications were followed up and compared to 1940 pregnant women traditionally supplemented with FA in the same hospital as a control group. RESULTS: The allele frequencies were 63.3% (C) and 36.7% (T) for MTHFR C677T, 79.3% (A) and 20.7% (C) for MTHFR A1298C and 75.0% (A) and 25.0% (G) for MTRR A66G. The incidence of GDM after FA supplementation was significantly lower in the case group compared to the control group, especially in high-risk pregnancies. CONCLUSION: Using genetic polymorphisms to elucidate FA metabolism in pregnant women and providing appropriate FA supplementation can be effective in reducing GDM, especially in high-risk groups.

Aiming at the construction of novel soft actuators through the amplified motions of molecular machines at the nanoscale, the design and synthesis of a new family of photoresponsive rotaxane-branched dendrimers through an efficient controllable divergent approach was successfully realized for the first time. In the third-generation rotaxane-branched dendrimers, up to 21 azobenzene-based rotaxane units located at each branch, thus making them the first successful synthesis of light-control integrated artificial molecular machines. Notably, upon alternative irradiation with UV and visible light, photoisomerization of the azobenzene stoppers leads to the collective and amplified motions of the precisely arranged rotaxane units, resulting in controllable and reversible dimension modulation of the integrating photoresponsive rotaxane-branched dendrimers in solution. Moreover, novel macroscopic soft actuators were further constructed based on these photoresponsive rotaxane-branched dendrimers, which revealed fast shape transformation behaviors with an actuating speed up to 21.2 ± 0.2° s-1 upon ultraviolet irradiation. More importantly, the resultant soft actuators could produce mechanical work upon light control that has been further successfully employed for weight-lifting and cargo transporting, thus laying the foundation toward the construction of novel smart materials that can perform programmed events.

Objective: To investigate the role of mannose-binding lectin (MBL) in modulating autophagy and protecting endothelial cells (ECs) from oxidized low-density lipoprotein (ox-LDL)-induced injury. Methods: Serum MBL concentration and carotid intima-media thickness (cIMT) were measured in 94 obese and 105 healthy children. ECs were transfected with MBL over-expression plasmid, LOX1 was knocked-down to explore the protective role of MBL in ox-LDL induced ECs injury. Dendritic cells (DCs) were co-cultured with ECs, and inflammatory factors, DC maturation, and autophagy was assessed. WT and ApoE-/- mice were fed with a high fat diet (HFD) with or without MBL-adenovirus injection for 16 weeks and aortic vascular endothelial tissue was isolated, then atherosclerotic plaque, cell injury and autophagy were analyzed. Results: Serum MBL concentration in obese children was lower than healthy controls and was negatively correlated with cIMT. The uptake of ox-LDL was decreased in LOX1 knock-down ECs. MBL over-expression in vitro inhibited LOX1-ox-LDL binding. Both LOX1 knock-down and MBL over-expression can ameliorate EC autophagy and cell injury. MBL over-expression in vivo alleviated atherosclerotic plaque formation, influenced DC maturation and down-regulated IL-6, IL-12, and TNF-a levels. Conclusions: MBL exerts a protective role in ox-LDL-induced EC injury by modulating DC maturation and EC autophagy via inhibiting LOX1-ox-LDL binding.

Objective: To investigate the clinical diagnostic and prognostic value of preoperative serum tumor markers in patients with colorectal cancer (CRC). Methods: From September 2013 to September 2016, we enrolled 980 patients diagnosed with CRC and 870 healthy subjects from The Affiliated Cancer Hospital of Shanxi Medical University. Patients were grouped and compared in accordance with tumor stage, tumor location, lymph node metastasis, distant metastasis, histological type, depth of invasion, growth type, and other factors. Serum carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), carbohydrate antigen 19-9 (CA19-9), and carbohydrate antigen 24-2 (CA24-2) concentrations in patient peripheral blood were measured, and the diagnostic value of the tumor markers in diagnosing CRC was assessed by receiver operating characteristic analysis. Results: The sensitivity of serum tumor markers in combination was significantly higher than serum tumor markers detected individually. CA19-9 levels were significantly correlated with CA24-2 levels (r = 0.884; P < .001) in patients with CRC. The preoperative CEA, CA19-9, and CA24-2 levels in patients with colon cancer were significantly higher than in patients with rectum cancer (all P < .001). The CA19-9 and CA24-2 levels were significantly higher in patients with lymph node metastasis than without (both P < .001). In addition, the CEA, CA19-9, and CA24-2 levels in patients with distant metastasis were significantly higher than those in patients without metastasis (all P < .001). Stratified analysis showed that CEA, CA19-9, and CA24-2 levels were significantly correlated with TNM staging (P < .05). With regard to the depth of tumor invasion, CEA, CA19-9, and CA24-2 levels in tumors outside the serosa were significantly higher than those in other tumor types (P < .05). In terms of diagnostic performance, CEA had a sensitivity of 0.52 and a specificity of 0.98, CA19-9 had a sensitivity of 0.35 and a specificity of 0.91, and CA24-2 had a sensitivity of 0.46 and a specificity of 0.95. Conclusion: The detection of serum tumor markers CEA, CA19-9, and CA24-2 is a good method for supporting diagnosis, making treatment decisions, judging therapeutic effect, and predicting prognosis when managing patients with CRC.

Alloy-based catalysts with high corrosion resistance and less self-aggregation are essential for oxygen reduction/evolution reactions (ORR/OER). Here, via an in situ growth strategy, NiCo alloy-inserted nitrogen-doped carbon nanotubes were assembled on a three-dimensional hollow nanosphere (NiCo@NCNTs/HN) using dicyandiamide. NiCo@NCNTs/HN exhibited better ORR activity (half-wave potential (E1/2) of 0.87 V) and stability (E1/2 shift of only -13 mV after 5000 cycles) than commercial Pt/C. NiCo@NCNTs/HN displayed a lower OER overpotential (330 mV) than RuO2 (390 mV). The NiCo@NCNTs/HN-assembled zinc-air battery exhibited high specific-capacity (847.01 mA h g-1) and cycling-stability (291 h). Synergies between NiCo alloys and NCNTs facilitated the charge transfer to promote 4e- ORR/OER kinetics. The carbon skeleton inhibited the corrosion of NiCo alloys from surface to subsurface, while inner cavities of CNTs confined particle growth and the aggregation of NiCo alloys to stabilize bifunctional activity. This provides a viable strategy for the design of alloy-based catalysts with confined grain-size and good structural/catalytic stabilities in oxygen electrocatalysis.

Objective: To explore the genetic etiology of a child with facial dysmorphia, developmental delay, intellectual disability, Fanconi renotubular syndrome, and Chiari malformations. Materials and methods: Whole exome sequencing (WES), Copy number variation sequencing (CNV-seq), and mitochondrial gene detection (Long-PCR + NGS) were applied to detect possible pathogenic mutations and chromosomal copy number variations (CNVs), together with databases and literature reviews to clarify the pathological significance of the candidate mutations. Results: The WES revealed a 2.10 Mb interstitial deletion from 11q13.3 to 11q13.4, which was later confirmed by CNV-seq involving 11 OMIM genes, among which SHANK2, DHCR7, NADSYN1, FADD, NUMA1, IL18BP, ANO1, and FGF3 are disease-causing. The mitochondrial gene shows no variations. Conclusion: The child has carried a de novo 11q13.3q13.4 microdeletion, in which SHANK2 genes may be the key gene responsible for the phenotype of intellectual disability. The renal manifestation of the child, which can be diagnosed as Fanconi renotubular syndrome, has an unknown cause but may result from the effect of the ANO1 gene. This case adds a new phenotype to the deletion of this region.

Manipulating electronic structure of alloy-based electrocatalysts can eagerly regulate its catalytic efficiency and corrosion resistance for water splitting and fundamentally understand the catalytic mechanisms for oxygen/hydrogen evolution reactions (OER/HER). Herein, the metallic Co-assisted Co7 Fe3 alloy heterojunction (Co7 Fe3 /Co) embeds in a 3D honeycomb-like graphitic carbon is purposely constructed as a bifunctional catalyst for overall water splitting. As-marked Co7 Fe3 /Co-600 displays the excellent catalytic activities in alkaline media with low overpotentials of 200 mV for OER and 68 mV for HER at 10 mA cm-2 . Theoretical calculations reveal the electronic redistribution after coupling Co with Co7 Fe3 , which likely forms the electron-rich state over interfaces and the electron-delocalized state at Co7 Fe3 alloy. This process changes the d-band center position of Co7 Fe3 /Co and optimizes the affinity of catalyst surface to intermediates, thus promoting the intrinsic OER/HER activities. For overall water splitting, the electrolyzer only requires a cell voltage of 1.50 V to achieve 10 mA cm-2 and dramatically retains 99.1% of original activity after 100 h of continuous operation. This work proposes an insight into modulation of electronic state in alloy/metal heterojunctions and explores a new path to construct more competitive electrocatalysts for overall water splitting.
